Six mentionables for Saturday and Sunday.
NFL
1. As we speak, Drew Brees is torching the 'Pokes. Through three quarters of play, he's 26-for-36 for 384 yards with 5 touchdowns. That's pure insanity.
2. Here's a low. 375 yards given up by the Colts. I got to see how bad this run defense was when Brian Westbrook ran wild against them a couple weeks ago. Giving up 8.9 yards per carry is inexcusable, even in the golden days of the WAC when defenses either lined up in the nickel or dime. Not to mention, the Colts gave up a 2nd-round draft pick for the aging Anthony "Booger" McFarland. So much for that.

3. Butler was thrown off of the mountain of the unbeatens after a 72-64 loss to Indiana State. Am I shocked? Although they protected the ball well (6 turnovers), they only caused 8 Sycamore turnovers and visited the free throw line nine less times.
4. Chalk one up in the woulda-shoulda-coulda category for San Diego State. Slated to be the darlings of the Mountain West Conference, the Aztecs followed a bad loss at Western Michigan with a lifeless defeat versus Arizona. The Aztecs were held to 32.8% from the field and outrebounded by 10. If that's not the perfect recipe for defeat, then I don't know what is.
5. Staying out west and in the Mountain West, Jeff Bzdelik has Air Force (10-1) playing efficiently on offense. College basketball statistical guru Ken Pomeroy has them rated as the most efficient team, if you watch them, you're not surprised one bit. They've made some early season believers with double-digit victories at Stanford and Colorado and versus Texas Tech and Wake Forest. The balance is scary, with all five starters averaging double figures in scoring.
6. Earlier this week, Gary Parrish of CBS Sportsline wrote an embellishing article about Texas A&M and how Billy Gillespie should be crowned as God. After two losses, albeit to top 10
competition, the Aggies have a long way to go before they are anointed with anything beyond being a probable tournament team.

Regarding Drew Brees performance: that offense has so much talent it surprises me that they don't put up that many points every week. I'm scared to think on what they will do against the weak Giants secondary in 2 weeks. The one good thing that has come out of that game is how suspect the Cowboys really are. Everyone was ready to crown them -- well the Saints showed that the Cowboys were who I said they were from the beginning. And Tony Romo has 1 touchdown and 5 interceptions the past two weeks. So much for the next Tom Brady. I figured it would take a few weeks before teams were able to analyze film to figure out his tendencies so they can shut them down and the Saints did it to perfection.
