Answers to Week 5 NFL Questions

1) While there wasn't one exact coach that stuck out to me as this weekend's NFL-version of Les Miles, a lot of criticism should be placed on Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. Despite leading 17-7 at the half, with just a ton of mojo oozing from QB Brett Favre, McCarthy put the leash on Favre and his entire offense. After a near 80-yard kickoff return following an opening FG drive by the Bears, placing the Pack inside the Bear 15, McCarthy only mustered 3 inside running plays, including a run call on 3rd and 5, and the Pack settled for a FG that gave them a 20-10 lead. While the coach can't be blamed for the 5 turnovers, especially the first of Favre second half INTs, it was his uberconservative playcalling which cost the Packers a 5-0 start.

2) 0-4 and things aren't going to get much easier for the 'Aints. Drew Brees looks the exact opposite in 2007 of how he did in 2006. Reggie Bush clearly isn't ready to carry the load by himself, the entire wideout corps have been exposed early and often, and the majority of the defense looks borderline pathetic. While last year can't be chalked up to luck, this year seems lost already. It's officially time that this team targets a playmaking linebacker in the offseason.

3) While the book is still out on Coach Gibbs and the Skins (can they find a short yardage back), we were yet again reminded - by an NFC East team - that the Lions are more paper than vicious. Sorry John Kitna, but your 50-TD season will have to wait another year.

4) Neither veteran QB could lead his team to victory on Sunday, although they were close. Frerrote, in actuality, tossed 5 TD passes. Unfortunately, two were to his opponent, the Arizona Cardinals. Dilfer managed a TD, but still fell to 3 FGs from original Raven Matt Stover. It hurts to lose 9-7, especially when your young defense really steps out (sans-Manny Lawson as well). 0-2 for the QB vets this weekend.

5) 0 TDs for Moss. As a Patriot-hater, I was thrilled. As a Patriot-hater, I was saddened to see there was a deep TD pass to Donte Stallworth (remember him?) and two more TD tosses from "King" Brady to Benjamin Watson. The Patriots look borderline unbeatable. Yuck.
